Jemma wins Coolhurst prize

Jemma Stanton has won the prestigious Coolhurst U17 Girls Squash Tournament in London.

Playing three matches in a round robin tournament, she had comfortable wins of 11-7, 11-2, 11-4 over Michelle Challis, 11-4 11-2 11-3 against Olivia Cater and 11-6 11-3 11-7 against Sarah Schofield.

Jemma also helped the South region to a third place finish in the Inter-Regional competition a few weeks ago. Playing at No 2 for the South in the girls U17s Jemma had one win but two defeats, all against nationally ranked players. Her efforts helped the team to a good finish position.

In the U11 section of the same tournament, MK’s James Kettle, again playing at number 2 for the South Region, against the North West, South West and London and the South East, played some fantastic squash to win two matches and lose one. The most notable a 3-2 victory against a player ranked ninth in the country, finishing 14-12 in the fifth game.

The South finished runners up in their group and went on to beat the East in the 3/4 place play-off, finishing third overall
