Kettle has to settle with being runner up in Open

James Kettle narrowly missed out on the Grantham Junior Open title last weekend after a closely fought final.

James, from Shenley Junior Squash Club, was number 2 seed in the 13 player draw and as such had a bye in the first round.

After beating Jared Evans in the quarter finals, James then beat Hugo Anderson from Suffolk in the semi finals. James’ superior speed around the court saw him through with a 2-0 win, 14-12, 11-7.

James now found himself in yet another final, only this time against relative unknown Huzaifa Ali, who beat the number one seed earlier in the competition.

James completely dominated the first game and took a comfortable win 11-5.

However, Huzaifa levelled things up with an 11-7 scoreline.

It all came down to a one game shootout and at 6-6 it was all very tense.

James seemed to lose a little concentration and from a winning position lost out and had to settle with being runner-up.
