MK Lakers got their hands on some silverware on Saturday as they won the South Midlands Korfball Association Cup.

Lakers took 17 players to the tournament, fielding two teams with a mix of youth and experience.

Lakers 1 got the afternoon underway, but opened with a defeat to Supernova.

They then were down 4-3 against Oxford City, but managed a 6-2 win in their final pool game, enough to see them into the 5th/6th place play-off against Abingdon.

Lakers 2 started their campaign with a 2-1 win over St Dominic’s.

A hat-trick from Emma Lawson wasn’t enough to see off Abingdon in their second outing as they had to settle for a 5-5 draw.

In their final pool game against Harrow 1, Charlene sank a gorgeous goal to take the lead and Emma netted the winner in the 5-3 win to set up a semi-final match against Supernova.

It was a new-look Supernova side compared to the one which beat Lakers 1 earlier in the day, but Lakers 2 had no trouble in cruising into the final, winning 3-0.

With Harrow 1 beating Oxford City 4-2 in the other semi-final, the teams for the final were set.

Lakers 1 were leading the support for their team-mates in the final and it seemed to help as Lakers 2 defended brilliantly throughout the match.

And their defensive work made the difference in the fiercly contested match, with Lakers coming out on top 4-2 to lift the Cup.
