Lions to start new basketball season away – if they can find a home

MK LIONS will start the new British Basketball League season with a trip to Manchester Giants, but for now the fixtures list is the least of the club’s worries.

Lions will visit the BBL new boys on Friday, September 21 before welcoming champions Newcastle Eagles to town 48 hours later – at a venue still unknown.

Giants are one of two new franchises to join the set-up this year – along with East London Royals – as the BBL continues to extend the professional basketball map across the UK.

Lions chief executive Vince Macaulay is thought to be close to securing a new home for the 2012/13 campaign and news is expected by the end of this week.

Wherever that new venue is, it will certainly be seeing plenty of action, with Lions drawn at home in the first rounds of both domestic cup competitions. They will host Durham Wildcats in the BBL Cup in October and Cheshire Jets in the BBL Trophy in December.
