MK athletes star at Inter-Counties Championships

Six MMKAC athletes represented Buckinghamshire in the annual Inter-Counties Championships which incorporated the England AA Championships, held at Bedford.

At this high level of competition Chuko Cribb was best placed with 6th place in the triple jump with a leap of 14.87m.

Kayleigh Presswell threw the hammer 53.13m for 8th place with Emma Beardmore, 14th with 45.76m. Tenth positions for Lara Bromilow, 17.37.84 in the 5000m and Emma Beales throwing 39.84m in the discus. Aaron Adom placed 5th in his heat of the 200m just failing to make the semi-finals. His time of 21.77 was his second fastest this year.

With the young athletes league programme over, many have turned their attention to competing at open meetings. Paige Barnes threw a personal best of 43.11m in the hammer at the London Inter-Club challenge at Hendon which moves her up to number 6 in the MMKAC ladies rankings for this discipline. Alfie Yabsley ran in the 1500m at Watford and with a sizeable personal best of 4.03.16 moved to 4th in the club under 17 age group rankings.

A week earlier at Rugby his first sub 2-minutes 800m(1.59.09) moved him to number 10 for this distance. Jack Meijer clocked 4.08.29 for the 1500m at Watford bringing him in at number 9 in these rankings.

MMKAC hosted their own open meeting and was well supported by athletes ranging from 10 to 50 years of age.

Edward Barber was the fastest in the under11’s 50m(7.8) and then Laura Chalmers was the quickest(8.1) under 11 girl over 50m. Megan Head won the u13girls 75m(10.9) and Thomas Chalmers the boys race(10.6).

Moving up to 200m, Tyrell Dankwa(M20) ran a PB pf 23.7 with Robert Everett winning the M13 race in 29.1. Abigail Fitton(F15) clocked the fastest female time with 27.0 and then won the 300m(43.3). On to the 600m where Millie Freeland was the fastest F11 with a PB of 2.05.5 and again Edward Barber(2.03.4) was the quickest boy.

In the 1500m races. Ella Nash was the fastest MK under 13 girl with 5.42.2 followed by PB’s from Ella Saunders(5.52.9) and Daisy Yabsley(5.53.9). Leo Freeland won the under 15 boys race and a huge PB of 4.52.9. Anna Kofoed-Gregory was the quickest F17(5.00.7). In the 75m hurdles , Tamzin Hill clocked 13.1 whilst over the 80m hurdles Hamish McGarvie ran 14.1.

Moving to the field events Ben Stacey cleared 1.56m and Charlotte Bailey 1.50m in the under 15 high jump.

There was no less than 17 competitors in the under 11 long jump where Edward Barber won with an excellent 4.27m and Kobe Sinclair-Linton second, jumping 3.96m. Amber Evans won the triple jump(9.42m) which also saw Kobe Sinclair-Linton clear 8.80m as un under 11. Richard Goldsworthy threw the senior(7.26kg) hammer 39.58m and Paige Barnes the 4kg hammer 39.57m

A number of club members ran at Oxford in a series of mile races. Graham Jones ran the fastest in 4.39.23, Robert Hickman was the quickest M15(5.08.87), Montana Edghill (F15) clocked 5.37.0 and Sebastian Henry(M13), 5.39.39
