MMKAC put the hammer down

The three visiting clubs, Chelmsford, Southampton and Tonbridge had all finished above the hosts last summer and not surprisingly it was a hard fought match.

Chelmsford took the honours with MMKAC just edging Tonbridge for runners-up.

Southampton, however, provided the individual star of the day when Louise Webb broke the UK record for the 2000m steeplechase by the incredibly close margin of 0.71 of a second when clocking 6.26.08.

The MMKAC ladies, whose team comprised at least 50% under 20’s, started with an excellent double in the hammer, Kayleigh Presswell again throwing over 50m with a best of 52.76m and then Emma Beardmore was just 12cm of her PB with 47.74 to win the B string. Emma went to record a further three victories in the throwing events, She won the shot with 10.59m and the B discus(34.80m) and javelin(20.76m). Lucy Johnston won the A javelin(28.92m), Emma Beales the A discus(39.18m) and Sade Ross the B shot(10.29m

It was tougher on the track for the ladies with Elle Roche their only winner, comfortably taking the 1500m in 4.57.54. In the sprints Jordan Heron took 3rd in the 100m and 4th in the 200m whilst both Katie James and Corinne Nurse placed 3rd in the 400m races. Sophie Botham ran tactically well in the 800, just of PB for 3rd position. Alice Ritchie ran to 2nd place in the B 3000m race and later made her 2km steeplechase debut, 3rd with 7.50.78, 5th best in the club all-time rankings.

The men’s lateral jumps produced maximum points for the hosts, Chuko Cribb and Jamil Hassan winning the long jump events, 6.33m and 6.03m respectively. Into their speciality, the triple jump, Chuko won by over 2m with a best of 14.40m, Jamil then leapt 13.27 to win the B event. In the throws Lewis Barnes threw 32.04m to win the hammer and Jonathan Pownall 52.40m for a javelin victory. Lewis then placed 2nd in both the shot and discus. For the ladies Molly Adams placed 2nd in the long jump(5.04m) and then in the triple jump she won the B event.

On the track Aron Adom placed 2nd in the 100m(11.35) and later won the 200m in a fast 22.26. Good points were notched up in endurances races, Sam Winter charged down a lead in the 800m to be just 4/100th off winning(1.59.92) with team-mate Ross Threlfall also 2nd in the B race(2.00.47). Ross took 2nd in the 1500m but Sam won the B race. Mark Ryall led from the front to easily win the 5000m(15.22.74) with Graham Jones making it a double for a comfortable B string first.

On the roads Martin Erasmus just failed to break the thee-hours barrier in the Brighton Marathon finishing 118th from the field of over 6000 in a time of 3:01.01. Sharon Edghill was well satisfied with her performance of 4:18.26 beating her best for 2015 by 5minutes. Chris Dunn led home 8 Mk runners in the annual Flitwick 10km, 63rd with a time of 41.15
