Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner admits he is still shocked by how well Daniel Ricciardo is performing this season.
Taking the step up from Toro Rosso, Ricciardo was expected to play second fiddle to four-time champion Sebastian Vettel.
However, the Australian has won three races this season to Vettel’s none, including the last two in Hungary and Belgium.
And while his boss rated Ricciardo highly enough to sign him, he admits he didn’t think he’d be so impressive.
“We never thought he would be as strong as he has been,” said Horner, speaking before this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix.
“We knew he was fast, we knew he was a very good racing driver, but I don’t think any of us knew how good he was going to be.”
