James Nash put a disappointing first race behind him to pick up his second victory of the season in Portugal on Sunday.
And his spectacular start to the season has seen him rise to third place in the overall World Touring Car Championship.
Few could have predicted a Nash victory after Race 1, which saw the Newport Pagnell racer finish outside of the points.
But his 10th place finish was enough to earn him the third step of the Independent Championship podium.
Starting from pole position in Race 2 though, Nash drove a near-perfect race around the Porto streets.
He set the fastest lap of the race in his Chevrolet Cruze and opened up a five second gap to the chasing pack behind as he made his second victory of the season look like a walk in the park.
After the race Nash said: “It’s been a great weekend in Porto. I really relaxed and enjoyed racing the Cruze.
“Street circuits are always a challenge but it’s great to take a race win and be back in third in the overall driver championship.”
With five rounds to go this season, Nash is third in the overall standings with 138 points, behind runaway leader Yvan Muller and fellow independent runner Michel Nykjaer.
In the Yokahama Championship, Nash is just four points behind Nykjaer.
The WTCC now takes a break until the first weekend in August, when the teams travel to Argentina.
