Nash heads into the unknown in France

James Nash admits it’ll be a steep learning curve as he heads into the Blancpain Sprint Series this weekend.

The Newport Pagnell racer will make his championship debut at the Nogaro circuit in France with his German co-driver Frank Stippler to race their Belgian W Racing Team Audi R8 LMS ultra in two one-hour races.

Nash, who impressively scored three top 10 finishes with WRT in last year’s five-race Blanpain Endurance Series – including an excellent third place on his Spa 24 Hour debut – has clocked up impressive lap times in testing in the WRT Audi over the winter. The Belgian team is the reigning Teams’ champions in the series.

However, in what will be Nash’s sixth race in the Audi, the 29-year-old feels he’s stepping into the unknown.

“I aim to score some solid championship points,” he said. “Nogaro is new to me so I will have a lot to learn. The plan is for me to get in pIenty of laps during practice.

“Before getting out to France, I’ve been studying on-board videos and car data that WRT gave me to get me up to speed before arriving at Nogaro. My co-driver Frank Stippler is also very experienced, in terms of both Nogaro and the Audi, and he has been a big help to me in learning the basics of the circuit.

“It’s great to be remaining with WRT for a consecutive second season which is a bonus for me. I’ve rarely had the luxury of consistency with teams in the past so this is an element that is especially pleasing. WRT is also an ultra-professional and successful team – a fact I immediately recognised when I joined them last year.

“Pre-season testing has been good and productive, clocking up a fair amount of mileage but as a driver you can never have enough! Essentially I’m really looking forward to competing in this series and further developing in to a top GT3 driver with Audi.”
