James Nash could seal the Independent Championship crown after a promising performance in Suzuka, Japan.
The World Touring Car driver, from Newport Pagnell, finished fifth in both races at the famous circuit, retaking the lead in the Yokohama Trophy and climbing to fourth in the overall standings.
With four races to go, Nash will be concentrating on the next round in China in November, where he could wrap up the championship.
He said: “It looks like it is possible that I can win the Independent title at the next event in China which would be fantastic.
“Gabriele Tarquini is going to be very difficult to dislodge from second there’s only two points between me and Tom Chilton for third so it’s game on!”
