Daniel Ricciardo has confidence that the RB11 will be there or thereabouts with the front runners at the season’s opening Grand Prix next month.
The Australian and team mate Daniil Kvyat were on testing duty again last weekend in Barcelona for the season pre-season test of the winer.
There, the Tilbrook team complete the second most laps (418), with only world champions Mercedes (446)completing more during the four-day session.
Ricciardo finished with the fourth fastest time, while Kvyat set the 10th fastest time, less than four tenths slower than his team mate.
Despite the positive test, Red Bull have only completed 2,676km in their new car - significantly less than their rivals.
However, reliability seems to be improving, and while they may appear to be playing catch-up behind fast-starting rivals Ferrari, Ricciardo believes they will be at the sharp end of the grid come the season opener in Melbourne on March 15 - Ricciardo’s home race.
“I think we’re chipping away,” he said. “We’re definitely making progress but it takes time.
“However, I think come Melbourne we’ll be there.”
