As expected, both Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kvyat will take engine penalties at the Austrian Grand Prix this weekend.
The Red Bull Racing pair have exceeded their engine allocation for the season already, and will pay the 10 place grid penalty price for using their fifth Renault power unit at the Red Bull Ring this weekend.
In Friday’s first free practice session, Kvyat continued to hold the upper hand over his team-mate by setting the sixth fastest time of the session with a 1:11.642, while Ricciardo was seventh in 1:11.724.
In the second session, the team’s long-run pace saw them further down the order, but 1.086 seconds separated former Red Bull man Sebastian Vettel’s fastest time from Kvyat in 12th - the first time in 13 races he has missed out on a top 10 finish in FP2.
Ricciardo ended the session in 17th, 2.076 seconds off the pace.
