Daniil Kvyat was fourth quickest in the second free practice session in Malaysia on Friday, but had his run cut short with yet more reliability problems.
The Russian completed 17 laps in both FP1 and FP2 sessions, but had to end the second session five minutes early after complaining about gearbox problems.
Kvyat ended with the fourth fastest time on 1:40.346 behind Lewis Hamilton, who too had reliability problems with his Mercedes.
Team mate Daniel Ricciardo also had problems with his RB11 in Kuala Lumpur during FP2. Only able to put in seven laps, Ricciardo set the 10th fastest time of 1:41.799.
