Jordan Stilp has been crowned the 2014 Renault UK Clio Cup Graduate Cup champion but wants even more next season.
The 20-year-old from Potterspury was still in with a shout of the overall championship heading into the final round at Brands Hatch, but contact on the opening lap of Race 1 meant Stilp could only manage a 12th place finish, all but ending his title chance.
But with a fifth place finish in Race 2, and a podium finish in Race 3, coming home third, it meant he lifted the Graduate Cup.
“I can’t believe it really,” said Stilp . “It’s a surprise to be honest, we really didn’t expect to take third in the championship and win the Graduate Cup.
“It’s been a great year, we’ve all worked really hard and the team have been brilliant.”
His fantastic season in the Clio has seen Stilp standing on the podium six times in the final 10 races, having failed to make the top three in the opening eight races.
Stilp believes his two wins at Croft in June were the catalyst for his fine end to the campaign.
He said: “It’s hard in Clios to get to the front and break that barrier of winning, but once you’ve done that it gives you confidence in yourself that you can win and stay at the front.”
And he’s making no bones about it - next season, Stilp wants to get his hands on the overall title.
He said: “If we can get the funds we’ll be doing it again next year, and if so we want to be contending for the title.”
