Mustangs prove their calibre in French event

It was a joyous return home this weekend for Milton Keynes U13s MK Mustangs squad who secured the sixth place cup in the Saint Andre De Corcy tournament in Lyon.

The team battled scorching temperatures of 29 degrees on the outdoor courts and strong competition on the indoor courts from 15 teams across Europe over two days to secure a place in the knock out stages.

The 19th running of the annual tournament hosted teams from a far as Macedonia, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Monaco, France and other European countries. MK Mustangs were the only team representing England.

The team players included Harjot Singh (Captain), Max Davies, Ali Adnan, Matthew Ward, Spencer Matthews, Mohammed El Nur, Nabil Hassan, Najib Hassan, Jeremy Sochan and Harry Wood.

Coach Aneta Sochan was extremely proud of her young team, with players aged from 9 to 13, for whom this was their first ever international tournament.

She said: “It was a well organised tournament hosted by a very friendly and welcoming team, led by Garin.

“A big thank you from MK Mustangs to the hosts, home supporters and England Basketball for this opportunity.”

MK Mustangs is a growing club open to new players and sponsors.

They are the only basketball focused, Clubmark 3* competing in England Basketball national league and have all age group teams from U13 through to senior men.

During August, Mustangs will be hosting a series of free-to-attend basketball sessions throughout Milton Keynes, to encourage people to get involved in the sport.
