New league is game changer

The National Badminton League gets underway in less than two weeks time, and Milton Keynes is set to be at the heart of the action.

For the first time, badminton’s elite will compete against each other in a domestic league in front of television audiences all over the country as the new NBL launches on Monday October 6.

MK Badminton are one of six teams to compete in the inaugural season, and will be in action on match night one against Surrey Smashers in Middleton Hall at thecentre:mk.

And what’s more - it’ll be shown live on Sky Sports, as well as in millions of homes across Asia via Eurosport.

Following their opening day game, MK Badminton take on the University of Nottingham on match day 2, on Monday November 3.

They aren’t part of match day 3, but host Birmingham Lions on January 26, 2015. They then travel to Team Derby on Match 23, before finishing at Loughborough onApril 27.

It’s a real mix of youth and experience pulling on the black and purple of MK Badminton.

Leading the line is captain Peter Mills - silver and bronze medallist at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Three-time Scottish champion Paul van Rietwelde joins him, as do Toby Penty, Elizabeth Cann, Sam Parsons, Jess Pugh, Sophie Brown, Alex Brown, Sophie Sankey, Ben Lane and Sean Vendy.
