With just two games to go, the sides are separated by points difference, and Olney certainly did themselves no harm by trouncing Old Newtonians 76-0.

Number 10 Jen Miles controlled the game, helping herself to two tries, although for once she left her kicking boots at home converting only three of Olney’s 14 tries.

Olney led 42-0 at half time, their pace and power too much for their opponents, who despite the score line never gave up and were able to exert pressure at the scrum.

However with plenty of possession the Olney back row of Jen Micklewright, Lianne O’Reilly and Charlotte Brown were able to enjoy themselves in the wide open spaces and with their pack dominant in the loose there were plenty of scoring opportunities for the backs.

The final score was testament to good handling skills which saw scores for all the back line, with full back Charlotte Armitage scoring three, and a brace each for Steph Lynes, Aisha Thornton and the aforementioned Miles.

Bletchley meanwhile kept up their end of the bargain with a tight 12-0 win over Lutterworth.

Emma Taylor ran in Bletchley’s first try of the afternoon just before half time, tapping a quick penalty to herself and breaking through the Lutterworth defence to cross the line. Sister Rachael did the business with the boot to see Bletchley 7-0 up at half time.

After a closely fought second half, Emma Taylor scored her second try of the afternoon late in the day to complete the win, though Rachael’s kick skimmed the posts and went just wide.

Next week, Olney entertain Lutterworth in the penultimate game, while Bletchley play their last home game of the season as they host Old Leamingtonians.
