Opening day defeat Hurtz Cows

Milton Keynes Roller Derby's Concrete Cows began their 2016 British Championships campaign with a 177-105 defeat to Chelmsford's Killa Hurtz in Southend on Saturday.

The new look Cows side took some time to get in the groove with points initially hard to come by, as Killa Hurtz ran into a 20-9 lead, but strong jamming from Sarah Stevens and Lissy Pattison pulled the Cows back into the game.

Cows took the lead in the middle of the first half 32-30, but a series of penalties left the Cows light on the track and Killa Hurtz surged into a healthy lead, going into the half time break leading 84-43.

The Cows tightened up at the start of the second half and began to cause problems to Killa Hurtz.

Strong blocking from Victoria Griffith lead to Killa Hurtz’s jammers spending time in the sin bin, and an 18 point power jam from top scoring jammer Emily Brady and a 9-point haul from debutant Claire Dargavel gave a glimmer of hope.

But Killa Hurtz saw the game out to win.
