BIG fish were feeding for Tuesday's opening of a brand new river season and the largest, far from being a traditional chub, was a 20lb carp.

That fish, a big, dark, common fell to Andy Garner from Olney's sections. He also had a 7-13 bream while Matt Farr landed three from to 8-9.

Elsewhere on the same club's river Paul Crook used pellet to tempt a 6-10 chub – a great summer fish by anyone's standards.

Well upstream James Ray had chub to around 3lb (losing two big ones) among some 60 silverfish in three hours before going off to work at Willards. And the river back of Bradwell lake was well alive with silvers, too. Pete Seidler had over 50 using 'stick and 'pin.

LODGE re-opened – with its swims neatly trimmed by the bailiffs – following a three-month break, too, and Barry Taylor had an 11-8 PB common on his first-ever visit.

GOOD bream have been munching at Bradwell where Robi Bara had one which turned his scales to 13-2. Pictures show it was well thick across the shoulders. Paul Morton had two 10s and DATS man Paul Hancock a 9-13. Adam Nicholls' young daughter Hannah had a really nice perch.

MK MAVER's plans for this summer's Division One 'national' just up the nearby Nene's cut were blown away by an Angling Trust decision to cancel both of this year's canal national's due to social distancing difficulties envisaged in bringing 500 people plus stewards and officials together for one match.

It is hoped the event will be pushed back a year, rather than cancelled.

MK Vets, Black Horse lake: Paul Chapman 32-1, Bob Gale 17lb, Dave Cantrell 14-10.
