CARPERS – get the bivvy kettles on and rejoice – the big brown things are on the move at last, despite the continuing bitter north-east winds!

Mudpigs coming on to the banks have been few and far between this 'spring' but, finally, that all seems to be changing at last.

Among those getting among 'em was Gary Weeks with two to 25-3 from Furzton – a venue which saw Rob Bara landing three overnight ranging from 13-6 to 24-6, while Stewart Ball had two crackers at 22-13 and 22-4. Carl Yeowell had a nice big Furzton mirror, too.

Still on Furzton Sandor Varga, fishing with Rob Bara, had a beautiful 12lb golden koi, while Gary McCarthy has been getting some nice bream.

OVER on Newport's Big Pit, James hunt had a very impressive looking 24lb common while the club's Kingfisher Pit is continuing to produce some nice nets of chunky little rudd.

FISHING Tear Drops Sam Burnside had a 16-7 and Michael Shearer a 17 plus a tench.

PAUL 'bream king' Morton certainly seems to have mastered Bradwell – for the moment – getting no less than 21 slab-like bream in his latest outing. Decent tench and carp have also been being caught there.

TURNING Wolverton Mill blue – with dye to try and inhibit weed growth – hasn't stopped Andrew Anderson and a mate catching some of the resident carp.

THINGS have been improving for some matchmen, too.

MAVER MK (Matchgroup) scooped the latest round of the Nene's 100 peg teams-of-four on the cut between Dodford and Weedon – taking top team spot on the day with their Simon Cordinglley second individual with 23lb.

MK Vets, Furzton: John Robison 27-8 of silvers, Simon Cordingley 21-12, Richard Lattimer 18-2. A and B sections were dire on the day.
