Students shine at British University Indoor Champs

Six MMKAC athletes represented their University at the British University Indoor Championships held in Sheffield.

Pride of place to Laura Zialor (Birmingham Univ.) who won the ladies high jump clearing a club indoor record of 1.81m, adding 3cm to her best from last year. Ebony Carr (Loughborough) won bronze in the 60m. She won her heat in a personal best time of 7.35 and then her semi-final(7.39), In the final Ebony clocked 7.41. Her heat time of 7.35 is the second fastest ever by a MK athlete. Record was set back in 1991 by Stephanie Douglas with 7.25.

There were no less than 12 heats for the men’s 60m, so really tough qualifying conditions. David Boakye (Aston) placed 3rd in his race (7.19), Tyrell Dankwa (Medway) took fifth in his race (7.37) as did Effiom Edet (Kingston) with 7.54.

Three MMKAC men travelled to Northern Ireland to compete in the Armagh 5km , one of the fastest 5km courses in the UK> Sam Winters broke the club record for this distance recording 14.34 to knock six seconds off the previous record. He only just held off Polo Burguete finishing in 14.36. James Tuttle, returning from injury recorded 15.02, just 19-seconds off his PB.
