While almost all around him were struggling on Cosgrove cut...he was sat in a world of his own netting skimmer after skimmer for 17-14 – almost double the second-placed weight!

He'd drawn the only peg between the village bridge and the far side of the new houses, so far from the next man that they couldn't see each other.

Lucky old Ernie Sattler made second with 9-13 of perch to 2-9 – on worm cadged from fourth-placed Paul Chapman (8-3) – to complete a day which started with Roger gifting him a brand new rod holdall! Rob Gibson had 8-8.

WITH Newport's Ouse well-up and darkness falling Gary 'Mr Whiskers' Teer was thinking that maybe he'd pushed his luck too far. And then he was into the latest in his long list of barbel from the river.

A SHORT session on the MK Ouse saw Mark Fisher netting a chub just an ounce shy of 6lb.
