Tebbutt out on his own as he wins with ease

There is always one who comes up smelling of roses, and in the MK Vets’ mid-weeker it was Roger Tebbutt.

Yet another upper Ouse barbel for Gary Teer

While almost all around him were struggling on Cosgrove cut...he was sat in a world of his own netting skimmer after skimmer for 17-14 – almost double the second-placed weight!

He'd drawn the only peg between the village bridge and the far side of the new houses, so far from the next man that they couldn't see each other.

With the canal pulling hard he started out fishing the middle with 4mm punch, changed up to 5mm and heavier rig, and caught skimmers right through to the whistle while cupping-in crumb and occasionally topping up with a bait-dropper.

Lucky old Ernie Sattler made second with 9-13 of perch to 2-9 – on worm cadged from fourth-placed Paul Chapman (8-3) – to complete a day which started with Roger gifting him a brand new rod holdall! Rob Gibson had 8-8.

WITH Newport's Ouse well-up and darkness falling Gary 'Mr Whiskers' Teer was thinking that maybe he'd pushed his luck too far. And then he was into the latest in his long list of barbel from the river.

A SHORT session on the MK Ouse saw Mark Fisher netting a chub just an ounce shy of 6lb.

FATHER and son Rob and Will Harriman have been getting decent pike from the canal while Geoff Arnold (reporting through MK Tackle) had snappers of 12lb, 9lb and 6lb Monday morning despite the unfavourable conditions.

MK Individual winter league second round, New Bradwell canal – a struggle: Ernie Sattler 6-6 (inc a decent chub and a good perch), Martin Cunniffe 2-8, 'Didder' Hefferon 2lb, Kevin Osborne 1-3. Kev leads on 37 with Alan Ford and Didder both on 35.

BEDFORD winter league final round, canal (other side of 'Brad'll bridge to MK match) – really was a faint whimper rather than a bang. Twelve of the 28 caught with top weights of 3-5, 1-15, 0-2.

MAVER MK's Richard Lattimer, Ian Smith and Pete Patton did the one-two-three in a Castle Ashby teams-of three, but as they were all fishing for different teams...

CALVERT, Potash Farm: Austin Maddock (golden peg winner) seven carp 29lb, John Robison three carp 12-8, Barry Witteridge 2-13.

TOWCESTER/Nene, canal, Bug Brooke: Rob Pottinger 6-6, John Balhatchett 5-12, Bob Eales 3-8.
