Places still available in the annual Leighton fun run

Hundreds of athletes are set to hit the streets of Leighton Buzzard for the annual 10k next month.

The event, organised by Leighton Fun Runners, will take place on Sunday March 9.

Starting and finishing near Vandyke School, the race heads out on quiet roads into picturesque countryside and has been described as “an undulating but fast course”. The last time the race was run (2012) Michael Aldridge (Rugby and Northampton AC) sealed the victory in a time of 33mins 13secs, with the leading lady Emma Curtis-Smith (Bearbrook Joggers) completing the course in 40mins 51secs securing 21st place overall.

Publicity Officer, Nick Hughes, said: “This year everything is running smoothly and LFR is very excited that the 10K is back again after the disappointing cancelation of last year’s race, due to overrunning bridge works at Clipstone Brook.

“This will be its 23rd year and continues in the spirit of our founder members to create inexpensive fun local running events for fun local runners. ”

There are still places available for the race. Visit www.leightonfunners.org.uk for details or enter on the day. Entry fees include car parking for all participants, chip timing and water bottle.
