Racing away with the relay

With teams competing from East Anglia across to the South-West, and of course, very convenient for the major London clubs, competition was fierce.

Alice Ritchie ran the opening 4.2km leg for the MMKAC team and from almost 40 starters ran very well to hand over to Lara Bromilow in 12th position.

Lara ran a solid 6.3km leg to hold this position.

A daunting prospect for Lucy Stone, making her club debut on leg 3.

However once into her stride she settled down for a steady performance, but with a number of much faster ladies coming through the field, Lucy handed over to Linsey Ryall in 20th place.

Linsey ran the longer 6.3km leg and gained one place before handing onto Diane Baldwin.

Diane, by far the oldest of the local team lost just one place before Martinha Royles ran the anchor leg consolidating their finishing position of 20th.

Highgate Harriers were the winners ahead of Cambridge and Aldershot.

In the latter events Jack Kee won two gold medal in the M75 age group throwing the 4kg hammer 35.17m and the 7.26kg weight, 13.81m.

Moving indoors, Jan Hardcastle took the bronze medal in the F55 triple jump with a distance of 7.78m and then placed 6th in the long jump(5.61m).

Paul Canning(M45) placed third in his heat of both the 60m(8.04) and 200m(25.92), and despite being the eldest athlete in this age group, wsa unlucky not to make the respective finals.
