Wolves hit top spot after Southend win


The 38-29 win at Emerson Valley saw Wolves leapfrog Spartans, who dropped to third as a result of their defeat.
Having drawn the reverse fixture earlier this season, Wolves went into the game knowing top spot was at stake.

Hide AdBut it was the visitors who started brighter, quickly racking up a 12-0 lead.


Wolves bit back though, and put 10 points on the board with two tries, one converted to trail 12-10.
Brian Purcell’s try then put Wolves into the lead for the first time, but they were pegged back by Spartans who tied it up at 16-16.
Just before half time though, Ciaran Walter gave Wolves the lead again as they took a 20-16 advantage in with them at the break.

Hide AdWolves started the second half sluggishly though and were soon 28-20 down, but they wouldn’t let Spartans get any more points on the board.
Three late tries to MK in a barnstorming last 10 minutes saw the Wolves finish victors by a scoreline of 38-28, and go top of a very tight East RL Division One table.
