Lauren Delaney signed off from Bletchley Ladies with a fine hat-trick as she swaps the rugby pitch for the velodrome.
Delaney was Bletchley’s hero in their 24-0 win over Rugby Lionesses, and will now take up her spot in the English cycling team as they compete in the Velodrome in Manchester.
It barely took a minute before Bletchley took the lead though, as they returned the kick off, Rachael Taylor eventually touching down and kicking the covnersion to put them 7-0 up inside 60 seconds.
Rugby dug in their heels though and forced a nip-and-tuck affair as Bletchley struggled to get over the line.
But their second try came shortly before half time. Beth Metcalf picked up from the back of a scrum, 10m from the Lionesses line, and ran for the line.
Rugby put in a tackle, forming a ruck but Emma Taylor picked up, ran across the pitch, trying to find a gap, popped out to Lauren Delany who put it over the line.
Yolanda Potter took the kick and, despite the tricky angle, drove the ball right between the posts to double Bletchley’s advantage at the break.
Bletchley needed patience in the second half, but they were handed a third try when Lauren Delany saw a gap, intercepted a pass and flew down the pitch to place the ball cleanly between the posts to extend the lead to 19 points.
Five minutes later, Delany did it again, giving her a hat-trick in her final match, completing the 24-0 win.
