A group of Bletchley Ladies players were at Twickenham to attend the Lawson Keys National Rugby Awards, but narrowly missed out on picking any up.

The whole team was nominated for Ladies Team of the year after a stunning 2014-15 season, which found them unbeaten in the league and only losing out to Kendal Wasps in the Semi Final of the Junior National Cup.

Lauren Delaney had also been shortlisted for the Ladies player of the year, after a stunning first season playing rugby, which found her being Bletchley’s and Bucks County’s highest try scorer.

Both categories were very competitive, with a diverse range of nominees shortlisted, including premiership teams and players.

Preceding the award ceremony, guest were given a tour of the England home changing room, followed by a pitch side champagne reception before entering the immense Rose Room for the banquet dinner, entertainment and awards.

Due to the upcoming England internationals the event ambassador, Chris Robshaw, was unable to attend, but a number of the present England sevens players and ex internationals were present.

Despite hoping for the best, Bletchley ladies were unable to secure either of their nominated awards, coming runners up in both categories, with Saracens ladies winning the team trophy and Lucy Meadley of Carlisle receiving the ladies’ player trophy.

Despite the inevitable disappointment, the Ladies did the club proud, getting a mention in the National Press after making a fantastic impression on one of the guests, royalty of rugby, Jeremy Guscott, who will remember meeting the girls for a long time.

The ladies are soon to commence the upcoming season in the National Championship Midlands 1 league.

It’s a step up for the team, but there is confidence within the squad that they will be able to manage the challenge, be competitive and hold their own.

Bletchley ladies are always looking for new players of any experience to bring depth to one of the best supported ladies team in the area.
