Olney appear to have put their dismal start to the season by picking up their second win in a row, seeing off Peterborough 20-3 on Saturday.
Having lost their opening five Midlands 2 East South games, Olney now have back-to-back wins, climbing to eighth in the table.
After a positive start to the game, Olney were the first on the board after 15 minutes as skipper Jack Sutton crashed over to put the home side 5-0 up.
The home side continued to have the edge and defended well both in the forwards and backs. The next score came from a scrum in the visitor’s half won by Olney and producing ball that was kicked into touch on Peterborough’s 22.
The visitors were penalised at the line out and Hawken kicked the goal to extend Olney’s lead to 8-0 at half time.
With conditions difficult, the game was littered with penalties for both sides, but Peterborough got on the scoreboard with a penalty.
Olney though would extend their lead to 13-3 in the 68th minute with a fine try from Rich Cowan.
As Peterborough chased late on, Olney counter attacked and kicked behind the visitor’s defence for Noddy Dieghton to chase through and score in the corner, Hawken converted with a fine kick to ensure their second win.
