Solid start to season for MMKAC's ladies

Sprint star Ebony Carr ran good early season times in the sprints, winning the 100m with a time of 12.50 into a headwind and then was narrowly beaten in the 200m (25.15).

Tia Morris ran 13.54 for third in the “B” string. Katie James was third in the 400m (62.32) but in the “B” race Lizzie Adam ran a fine race snatching the lead in the final 30m with a personal best time of 60.22.

Corinne Nurse and Martina Royles found the 800m races tough going both placing 5th, 2.30.77 and 2.37.57 respectively.

In the 400m hurdles Natalie Nurse placed 4th(80.56) and Carly Scott 2nd (93.82) Best field event performance came from Molly Adams long jumping 4.99m for 5th position.

Finally the sprint relay team of Tia Morris, Ebony Carr, Lizzie Adam and Molly Adams took third place in 50.05.

There was a very depleted under 15 girls team but amongst the highlights was a double in the 800m.

Montana Edghill ran a fine tactical race to win the “A” 800m.

Taking the lead at 600m she sprinted away to win in a PB by six seconds (2.27.08). Anna Usteran-Anderegg won the “B” string(2.43.45).

Gemma Milne(5.29.88) and Charlotte Cooke (5.35.29) placed fifth and second in the 15,000m races.

Hannah Weatherley placed fourth in the 75m hurdles, just of her PB with 13.27 whilst Regan Cooper ran 27.98 for second place in the 200m.

Charlotte Bailey started the high jump with a PB of 1.50m.

This height was comfortably attained and then soared over 1.53m to finish second in the event and the seventh best in the club all-time age group rankings.

There were ten MMKAC runners in the annual Oakley 20mile race near Bedford, many using the event as part of their build-up to the forthcoming London Marathon. From a field of around 800, Gary Blaber led them home, 27th in 2:16.59, just over two minutes slower than last year.

Matt Child set a personal best of 2:19.11, 34th and one place ahead of Jeremy Vick(2:19.15). Natasha Baker was fourth senior lady to finish, 75th overall and improving her PB by seven seconds to record 2:27.47.

Next in were the Wood brothers, Ross clocking 2:30.40 and Ian 2:32.05. Russell Jones ran 2:39.32, Kelvin Smith 2:46.35, Sam Daniells 2:51.08 and a debut time of 3:05.27 from Doug Yabsley.

The Reading half-marathon is one of the most popular in the UK and attracted over 11.000 runners.

Three represented MMKAC with Tom Comerford 94th (76.48), Steve Herring 123rd (78.28) and Geoff New, who is hoping to complete the Boston (USA) and London marathons within a week of each other, finished with 92.29 in his final warm-up race.
