Sprinters hit top gear in early season track meet

Young athletes hit the ground running at the early season open track and field meeting, hosted by MMKAC.

No fewer than 120 athletes took part, with most aged U17.

Fastest boy and girl in the 75m for under 11’s were Edward Barber (11.6) and Megan Head (11.9). Moving up to the 100m, Kwame Twumasi-Tawiah (M17) was the fastest on the day recording 11.6.

Ethan Wiltshire (M15) and Geoerge Ho (M13) were the quickest in these age groups with 12.5 and 14.4 respectively.

Grace Linnett (F17) was the fastest female sprinter on the day with 13.9 in the 100m and 28.9 for the 200m.

In this latter distance Ben Roxbee-Cox (M17) was the quickest male on show running 25.1.

Ben Stacey ran 27.8 in the M15’s and Regan Cooper 29.0 for the F15’s.

The long jump attracted no less than 78 competitors and way out in front was Jamil Hassan (M20) who set a PB of 6.37m.

Longest jump by a female athlete came from Amb er Evans (F17) with 4.71m. Moving down the age groups Hamish McGarvie (M15) jumped 4.81m, Yinka Adelowo (M13), 4.20m and Edward Barber (M11),3.92m. For the young ladies Tamzin Hill (F15) leapt 4.28m, Lateefah Agberemi (F13), 4.17m and Betsy Tapp (F11), 3.30m.

Back on the track Ethan Aldous won the M11 600m in 2.07.7 and Olivia Paoli the F11 race with a time of 2.12.7.

Moving up to the 800m George Glinki (M20) ran the best time of the day(2.08.3) PB’s from the fastest M15’s, Robert Hickman (2.21.2) and M13’s, Alex Brent (2.32.5).

There was a close battle for the quickest F13, Charlotte Underwood ran 2.52.3, Ella Nash, 2.53.7 and Lily-Mae Smith, 2.54.6.

The hurdles races were popular and saw Lateefah Agberemi (F13) run the fastest time (13.0) over the 70m race whilst Hannah Weatherley (F15) clocked 13.3 for the 75m race. Ben Stacey won the M15 80m hurdles race in 13.9.

There was some good early season hammer throwing from Kayleigh Presswell(51.17m) and Emma Beardmore(46.19m) with James Ericcson-Nicholls throwing the M15 hammer 35.72m. Best javelin throws came from James Palmer(M15), 35.44m and Hannah Weatherley(F15), 23.72m Charlotte Bailey won the F15 high jump(1.50m) whilst both Tegan Armstrong and Asher Cliff-Afemari cleared 1.28m in the F13 event. There were six young athletes multi-events competitions within the afternoon. In the pentathlon Hamish McGarvie won the M15 event(1281pts), and Charlotte Underwood the F13 event(1748pts). Tamzin Hill scored 1926 to take the runners-up place in the F15 event. Finally the under 11’s Quadkids competition(4 events) were won by Edward Barber(238pts) and Megan Head(190pts).
