Stony cruelly denied

Stony Stratford were denied their first win of the season against Wellingborough on Saturday as rain delayed the game.

Starting the day bottom of the Northats Premier League pile, Stony started brilliantly and had Welly 8-3.

A slight recovers for the Northamptonshire side though saw them through to 172, with two wickets apiece for Alex Strong (2-35) and Kamran Anwar (2-36), while Graham Simpson took 3-32.

But while the innings got off to solid start, Stony’s reply was hampered and held up by the rain.

Mark Hulbert scored a great 45 for the visitors, but Stony’s innings was halted at 99-3, and the match declared a draw.

On a positive note though, Stony took 24 points from the match to Wellingborough’s eight, lifting Nick Allen’s side off the bottom of the table, with Wellingborough replacing them there.
