Stony Stratford denied victory as the weather saves Brixworth

Stony Stratford were cruelly denied a vital win in Northants League Premier Division as the rain put paid to their game late on on Saturday.

In one of the few games in the league to go ahead, Stony were in pole position for a winning draw at the very least before the rain came, costing them solid points on the road.

Batting first, Stony got off to a shaky start at 10-2, but Vicram Sohal (75) and Jarrod Pretorious (80) took them from 68-4 to 211-5. They were eventually bowled out for 235 as the lower order collapsed to Ross McLean (5-40).

The Brixworth response was slow and steady, but was never going to get close to Stony’s total.

Despite Marc Bell’s unbeaten 53, Brixworth found themselves saved when the rain fell with their score on 141-5 after 41 overs, resulting in a draw.
