Stressful game shows Dons' character, says Upson

Upson scored Dons' second and a remarkable fourth in the second half as they came from 4-2 down with 10 minutes to go to salvage a point against the Latics.Costly mistakes at the back saw Dons go in 3-1 down at the interval, while another lapse in concentration allowed Oldham captain Peter Clarke to poke in a fourth just past the hour mark to make it 4-2, with most inside Stadium MK thinking that would be that.

But Upson said the players reacted brilliantly to get themselves back into it, first through Aidan Nesbitt on 81 minutes before Upson's second and Dons' fourth with two minutes to go.

"It was quite stressful, but I think we could have nicked it in the end," he said. "Oldham crumbled late on and we took advantage but we'll take the point having been 4-2 down, but we're slightly not disappointed not to win it. We were all pushing for it, but we were wary not to get caught at the other end, so we were a but tentative.

"I think, on the ball, we were very good, but off it we weren't so good. That has to be addressed. It's nice to be scoring goals but if you keep clean sheets, you're not going far wrong."

Upson's first was a brilliant free kick, which clipped the underside of the bar on it's way past Johny Placide in the Oldham net.

And after getting grief from his manager for not being able to produce in matches, Upson said: "I've been trying them all last year and all this year, so it was nice to finally see one go in!"

Ryan Seager's initial effort may have crossed the line, Upson bundled the ball over the line for his second to score a dramatic equaliser for his side. And though Seager may claim it later, Upson certainly had his name on it afterwards.

He added: "I didn't see it go over the line, Seags will tell you something different but I saw it hit the back of the net when it left my foot so I'm taking that one!"
