Four swimmers from Central Milton Keynes Swimming Club travelled to Barcelona this month for the Catalan Championships representing South East England.
This one-off event featured teams from both England and Spain across three days.
Despite the foreign surroundings, the foursome of Tom Flaherty, Isobel Jones, Charlotte Evans and Joss Ulyett from CMKSC rose to the occasion and exceeded all their coaches’ expectations.
Tom, who is 16, competed well with three personal best performances winning a medal in the 4x200m freestyle team.
Isobel, 16, also won a relay medal with a personal best relay split.
Charlotte, 16, won bronze in the 100m backstroke and narrowly missed out in the 200m back, but gained another medal in the women’s’ medley relay team.
Joss, 18, won four medals in total as well as setting a new county 50m breaststroke record and was the outstanding South East swimmer of the meet.
The SE team was led by CMKSC’s head coach Greg Buck said he was delighted with his team’s performance.
“This was a great experience for some of our top athletes competing against different opposition in a foreign country,” he said.
“The CMK swimmers performed above expectations, as did the whole team, especially for mid season.
“I look forward to the target meets coming up.”
The club is currently preparing for the annual county events taking place in February and March followed by the South East Regionals in the spring.
