Eight swimmers from CMKSC did their club proud and competed in Manchester at the British Gas International Swimming Meet.

In a busy first two days, the girls relay teams finished 4th in the Freestyle relay plus an earlier 5th in the Medley, picking up £300 in prize money.

One of the team members – 14 year-old Lucy Farmer - then came 4th in the junior girls 50m Backstroke in a new county record.

Tom Flaherty, 17, made two junior finals in the first few days improving on his 400m club record in the process. Sixteen-year-old Charlotte Evans also finished a creditable 11th in the senior 100m Backstroke.

On the last evening session Tom made one more junior final (100m Free). Fellow finalist Lucy Chenery (MD 200m Free) swam very well and Charlotte Evans (Senior 200m Back) came 5th against world class opposition setting a new South East Region age group record.

Head coach Greg Buck said: “The team swam really well, despite being in mid-season training and gained valuable racing experience at this level.”
