MK Badminton slipped to the bottom of the National Badminton League on Monday night after a 5-0 defeat away at Team Derby.
The whitewash in the penultimate game of the season means MK failed to pick up a single point in the contest, and now need a two point swing over Birmingham Lions and next month’s opponents Loughboorugh Sport to stand any chance of getting to finals day.
It was a tough night for MK, though it started brilliantly as Jess Pugh and Ben Lane took the first set in the mixed doubles against Gail Emms and Martin Campbell. But despite pushing the second set to 9-8, they lost the next two to go down 3-1.
Derby’s Karin Schnasse beat Lizz Carr 3-0, Donna Kellogg and Kate Robertshaw were 3-1 winners against Jess Fletcher and Sophie Sankey to ensure victory for the home side, before Rajiv Ouseph saw off Sam Parsons 3-0.
MK skipper Peter Mills and playing partner Paul van Rietvelde fell 2-0 down to Chris Coles and Andy Ellis before clawing it back to 2-2.
But MK’s luck ran out in the final set as the pair lost 3-2 to complete the rout.
