SCREEN and stage veteran Hayley Mills heads an all star cast for Ladies In Lavender which holds its world premiere at the Royal & Derngate in April.
The venue announced today that it was extending its run by a week after a phenomenal demand for tickets.
Stage and TV actress Belinda Lang will be joining Miss Mills in the cast of this heart-warming play which now runs from April 6 to 28.
Ladies In Lavender is based on the hit Charles Dance’s film that starred Judi Dench and Maggie Smith, and on the original short story by William J Locke.
It tells the tale of two sisters, Ursula and Janet, who live in a close-knit fishing village in picturesque Cornwall, in 1937, whose peaceful lives are disrupted by the arrival of a handsome young Polish-Jewish violinist washed ashore.
Hayley Mills is from one of Britain’s greatest theatrical families. Her theatre work includes the UK tour of The King and I and Humble Boy, and on television, she appears as Caroline in ITV’s Wild At Heart.
Playing her sister Janet will be Belinda Lang, who has starred in the West End opposite Dame Judi Dench in Hay Fever and more recently in The Killing of Sister George at the Arts Theatre, and is most well-known on television for 2 Point 4 Children.
The cast also includes Robert Duncan, best recognised for his role as Gus in the long-running Channel 4 sitcom Drop the Dead Donkey, and Carol Macready who was recently seen on the Royal stage in JB Priestley’s Eden End, directed by Laurie Sansom.
