By day she edits academic texts, but under the cover of darkness Milton Keynes-based author A.F.E Smith weaves her own words into engaging fantasy.

And her debut novel, Darkhaven has just been released.

It’s been quite the journey for its author to get to this point: In 2012, she entered a call by publishing house Harper Voyager for new authors to submit their novels.

The worldwide shout out resulted in 5,000 submissions, and Darkhaven was one of 15 chosen for release by the UK branch.

‘Ayla Nightshade never wanted to rule Darkhaven. But her half-brother Myrren – true heir to the throne – hasn’t inherited their family gift, forcing her to take his place.

‘When this gift leads to Ayla being accused of killing her father, Myrren is the only one to believe her innocent.

‘Does something more sinister than the power to shapeshift lie at the heart of the Nightshade family line?

‘Now on the run, Ayla must fight to clear her name if she is ever to wear the crown she never wanted and be allowed to return to the home she always loved.’

Darkhaven is available to download as an ebook for £1.99, with a paperback release set to follow early in 2016.
