Buckinghamshire hotel treats guests to a sweet surprise to mark World Bee Day

An award-winning Buckinghamshire hotel is celebrating World Bee Day by offering guests the chance to take home jars of honey produced from its own beehives – with funds supporting education programmes in the local community.

Horwood House Hotel, an award-winning, 4-star country house hotel and conference venue in Little Horwood, near Milton Keynes, welcomed 20,000 bees to its 38-acre estate in 2025 from Urban Bee-lievers, as part of a three-year, £7,500 commitment to promote biodiversity and give back to the local community.

The partnership supports the social enterprise’s mission to educate and inspire people across Milton Keynes to help make the city more bee-friendly, and is part of the Milton Keynes Christian Foundation, a charity which helps young people not currently in education, training or employment to gain essential work experience and qualifications through hands-on projects.

Since the hives were installed, Horwood has welcomed Urban Bee-lievers students to its kitchens for work experience alongside their chefs, where students created honey-based bakes and desserts using honey from the estate.

Now, guests can take a piece of that story home with them. Every purchase will also support Urban Bee-lievers, helping the social enterprise to raise further funds for its work with bees and young people in the local community.

Caroline Morrone, General Manager at Horwood House Hotel, said: “World Bee Day felt like the perfect moment to celebrate the next chapter in our partnership with Urban Bee-lievers. We were thrilled to welcome more than 20,000 bees to the estate last year, and selling honey to guests from our own hives is incredibly special. It represents our commitment to protecting the pollinators, supporting biodiversity across our grounds and creating meaningful opportunities for Urban Bee-lievers students and the Milton Keynes Christian Foundation.”

Caroline added: “Our bees have created a real buzz with guests, the team and the local community, and we’re looking forward to sharing more about an exciting project we’re currently working on about their journey with us in the near future.”

Horwood House’s partnership with Urban Bee-lievers is one of several community-focused initiatives at the hotel, alongside work with local charities, schools and organisations.
