If your hearing is suffering due to ear wax this new Interhearing microsuction clinic in Milton Keynes could have just the solution.

Independent hearing specialists Interhearing are delighted with the growing popularity of their new microsuction ear wax removal clinic at the Walnut Tree Health Centre, Milton Keynes led by Senior Ear Care Nurse Amna Ageli, an ENT advanced nurse practitioner.

“We have been delighted by the very positive response to our new clinic, which opened on the 17th November,” explains John Beharrell, Interhearing’s founder and Consultant Audiologist. “We love working in Milton Keynes and have had some very positive feedback from our new patients, who are already recommending our ear wax removal service to friends and family.”

Interhearing Ear Care Nurses have been offering microsuction for nearly eight years and have clinics in various locations around the country including Reading and Birmingham.

The service stands out from many other companies offering microsuction as they ensure that Interhearing clinics are led by highly qualified ear care nurses with extensive experience in microsuction wax removal, which is viewed by healthcare professionals as the fastest and safest form of ear wax removal, as ear syringing is no longer recommended as a first line treatment.

NICE, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, a non-departmental body of the department of Health and Social Car in England, says: “Ear syringing, where a manual syringe pumps water into the ear, is potentially harmful and should not be used.”

What is microsuction?

According to the NHS symptoms of earwax build-up include hearing loss, earache or a feeling that your ears are blocked, ringing or buzzing in your ears (tinnitus) or vertigo (feeling dizzy or sick). Often earwax falls out itself, but if it builds up these problems can emerge.

Recommended solutions include using drops of medical grade olive oil or drops of almond oil in your ears (this is available from any local pharmacy) however, this doesn’t always solve the problem. One method of ear-wax removal recommended by the NHS is microsuction – sucking the wax out.

Microsuction ear wax removal is a treatment whereby a practitioner removes ear wax using a compact suction device while looking into your ear with a binocular microscope, which offers a really clear view of the ear canal, making it safer and easier to clear the ear wax with low-pressure suction.

“We know that hearing plays a very important part in our everyday lives and that blocked ears can feel very isolating, especially as we move in to the festive season where many of us will be spending more time with our family and friends.” John adds. “Additional symptoms such as discomfort, hearing loss and tinnitus can also really affect a person’s work, home and social life and so we try our very best to see our patients within just a few days of booking.”

Interhearing clinics offer private microsuction with qualified, registered Ear Care nurses and Audiologists on a self-referral basis, so there is no need to wait for a referral from your GP - patients can simply book an appointment by calling the free booking line on 0800 002 9503 or via the Interhearing website www.interhearing.com.
