Oakgrove School, in Venturer Gate, Middleton, sent out a letter to parents on Tuesday (November 10) warning them that 'a member of our school community' has the virus.

Those who came into close contact with the positive case have also been forced to self-isolate at home for 14 days - it is not known how many have had to do this.

In the letter sent to parents, signed by headteacher Ian Tett, the school said: "We know that you may find this concerning but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England."

The school said it remains open and those who are well should continue to attend.

The second lockdown, which started on Thursday (November 5) and is set to end on December 2, allows schools to remain open while non-essential shops and businesses must stay closed.
