Leighton phone shop raid - two arrested

TWO men were arrested following a police pursuit through two counties after police stumbled onto a burglary in Leighton town centre just as the suspected thieves were leaving the premises with armfuls of mobile phones.

Officers had been dealing with another call in the early hours of today (Tuesday) in nearby Grove Road when they spotted three men, who were each wearing Balaclavas, leaving Mobile Solutions, a mobile phone shop, in Lake Street. The front door to the premises had been kicked in.

The officers, plus the police helicopter were scrambled to follow the men and tracked the black Vauxhall Astra to Great Brickhill where three men fled over residents’ gardens.

Police dogs were deployed along with officers from Thames Valley Police and, shortly after 3am, two of the three suspects were arrested.

Simon Hutchinson, of Beds Police, said the Astra, which had false number plates, had earlier been stolen from Milton Keynes. The incident in Leightion is also being linked to another burglary which took place earlier in the night.

The two men who were arrested are aged 29 and 35. They were taken to Dunstable Police Station but later transferred into the custody of TVP. The third suspect escaped and is still being hunted.
