The businesses that took part were located across Milton Keynes including in Conniburrow, Campbell Park, Bletchley, Shenley Church End, Greenleys and Leadenhall.

Police said that staff consistently challenged for proof of age and refused sales where appropriate.

Members of its licensing department and trading standards officers are due to contact the participating businesses to share the results of the operation and give further feedback.

In a statement police said: “These proactive operations are carried out regularly to ensure businesses comply with the law, promote responsible retailing, and help protect young people from age restricted products.

“A huge thank you to all staff and businesses involved for playing their part in keeping our communities safe and supporting responsible retail across Milton Keynes.”
