Milton Keynes road closed for work following improvements as part of town deal project

A road in Milton Keynes is set to be closed tomorrow (Thursday) for work, following improvements as part of the town deal project.

Queensway in Bletchley is due to be shut on October 29 to allow Milton Keynes City Council to replace sections of the road surface and refresh the road markings.

The city council says that the road will be shut between Albert Street and Lennox Road, and that access from Oxford Street, Bedford Street, Westfield Road and Cambridge Street will be affected, along with access to the Elizabeth Square car park.

Bletchley and Fenny Stratford Town Council said in a statement: “These works are necessary to address sections of the recently completed carriageway and ensure the road remains in good condition.

“Please allow extra time for your journey and plan an alternative route where possible.”

Milton Keynes City Council has been completing a Queensway Improvement Scheme this year, including changes to the High Street, such as the installation of new block paving, kerbs and tree pits, as well as planting and street furniture, and other features to help prevent anti-social parking.

These improvements took place as part of the Bletchley and Fenny Stratford Town Deal programme, which are part of the city council’s plans to transform the area.

The council announced in August that it was planning to demolish the Brunel Centre and former Wilko building, in a bid to regenerate Bletchley’s town centre.
