Data reveals how many Thames Valley Police officers were added to barred list last year

New data has revealed how many Thames Valley Police officers were added to the College of Policing’s barred list last year.

A total of 27 officers from the force, which covers Buckinghamshire, as well as Oxfordshire and Berkshire, were added to the list in 2025-2026.

This figure is down on 2024-2025 when 40 Thames Valley Police officers were added to the list.

The number of officers from the Thames Valley added before that was 12 (2023-2024), 11 (2022-2023), 13 (2021-2022) and nine (2020-2021).

The list has been compiled since 2017.

Nationally, the professional body for policing said that a record number of officers were barred from the service in the year to the end of March - 757.

The list includes officers, special constables and staff sacked after breaching professional standards and then banned from returning to the profession.

The force with the highest number of officers added was the Metropolitan Police with 195, out of a current workforce of 31,495.

Commenting on the figures director of operational standards at the College of Policing, Assistant Chief Constable Arman Mathieson said: “Policing is built on trust and these figures show we will not hesitate to act when that trust is broken.

“757 officers have been removed and barred from ever serving again, including those who retired or resigned while under investigation.

“This represents 0.5% of all serving officers, with the vast majority of officers serving with courage, professionalism and integrity.

“We all deserve a service that roots out those who fall short. Where standards are breached, we will find out and we will act.

“Since the barred list was introduced in December 2017, 3,591 regular officers have been added in total, with the pace of dismissals accelerating markedly.

“757 officers were barred last year alone, more than in any single year since the list began and over twice the annual average of the preceding four years.”
