“I have nothing left”, says Milton Keynes man whose van and livelihood was stolen after 26 years of hard work

A small business owner in Milton Keynes lost everything when his van, wallet and all his tools and equipment were stolen in broad daylight.

Marc Jelley, aged 42, was working on one of his usual painting and decorating jobs on Monday, August 10, when everything changed.

While he was painting windows up a scaffold just a few metres away, someone came onto his customer’s property and stole Marc’s van.

Not only was his van gone, but also his wallet, house keys and 26 years worth of tools, equipment and kits he had collected for his painting and decorating business. Everything he needed to earn a living.

This included professional power tools, dustless sanders, extractors, fans, drills, laser levels, access equipment, hand tools, dust sheets, and countless other items.

Some of these, though expensive, can be replaced. But others were sentimental gifts given from family members over the years.

Marc said: “I am heartbroken, angry, exhausted, and if I am completely honest, I have had moments where I have thought, what is the point?

“The police have done very little so far, and I am left trying to figure out how I am supposed to rebuild 26 years of equipment and get back to work.”

Marc has worked hard building his painting and decorating business himself for over two decades, just to have it snatched away in minutes.

Marc added: “The hardest part is knowing that whoever did this likely gave no thought to the person they were affecting.”

“They didn’t just steal a van. They took away my ability to work.”

Marc has now set up a fundraiser to help him rebuild his livelihood. So far, he has raised £1,312 with a target of £1,600.

You can help show your support by donating online at Marc’s fundraiser and sharing his fundraising page.

Marc said: “I am not someone who normally asks for help. I am used to being the one who works hard and helps others.

“But right now, I need some help. I do not expect anyone to replace 26 years of equipment. Please just share this. You never know who might see it.”
