Jobs still down in Milton Keynes - but signs of turnaround
New figures show that employment in Milton Keynes has increased this month, despite lower rates overall this year.
According to the employment and pay app WageSight, latest employment data for March 2026 shows the number of Milton Keynes employees on payroll was 146,039 - down by 0.3% compared to the same month last year.

But there are signs that confidence amongst employers is returning, with organisations reporting an increase of 137 on payroll over the past month.
Overall, employment in Milton Keynes still remains lower than a year ago, with employers reporting payroll headcount down 425 (-0.3%) year-on-year.
The figures are based on analysis of the latest Office for National Statistics payroll data by WageSight.
Compared with other towns and cities in the South East, Milton Keynes ranks 16th out of 21, ranking it amongst the weaker performers for employment change.
Figures show a mixed picture across the South East, with some seeing improvements while others continue to see pressure on payroll numbers. This trend is reflected nationally, creating a challenging backdrop.
Paul Hebden, WageSight Director, said: “Although employment in Milton Keynes remains lower than a year ago, recent month-on-month figures suggest some stabilisation in recent months.
“Whether this marks a genuine turning point or a temporary pause in job losses will become clearer over the next few months.”
