Milton Keynes gears up for biggest one-day social media event celebrating city
You can help spread the love for Milton Keynes by sharing your top tips for those visiting the city – with prizes to be won.
The city’s tour guide, Destination Milton Keynes (DMK), is asking for your top tips on visiting the city, as it gears up for the 14th annual #LoveMK Day on Thursday, April 30.
The event has become the biggest one-day social media celebration of all things Milton Keynes over the decade, helping to promote the city as a leisure and business destination. This year, DMK wants to hear useful recommendations for anyone visiting, staying over or those who want to get out and explore their local area.
They’ve come up with a few top tips to get you started:

- Learn your Hs & Vs! The horizontal and vertical main grid roads help you easily navigate the city.
- The free Midsummer Festival on 21 June celebrates the summer solstice in the city - with a day of performances, creative workshops, live music, art installations, street food and more.
- Take a bike ride through the beautiful Ouzel Valley from Caldecotte Lake in the South to Willen Lake in the north - you can avoid roads by using the iconic redways.
- Explore the hidden gem of market town Newport Pagnell.
- Check out the huge new floor-painted art installation in Station Square.
- Discover the home of the famous WW2 codebreakers at Bletchley Park.
- Spot the public art work at Campbell Park while making the most of the good weather.
- Explore the thriving independent restaurant and coffee shop scene - including Maaya Indian Kitchen & Bar, Nonna’s, Italian Sul Lago, The Greedy Italian, Bogota Coffee Company, Canal Street Coffee, Milks & Beans and much more.
- Discover the hidden oasis of Fred Roche Gardens right in the heart of the city centre
- For a night of live music, head to The Stables, Craufurd Arms, MK11 and Unity Place. Or check out some of the cities larger festivals.
You can share any top tips with Destination MK on their social media channels.
On #LoveMK Day itself, you can help spread the love by sharing the hashtag on your social media posts. And why not get creative? You can add your own flare by painting it, sewing it, baking it, making it out of flowers, or anything else you can think of.
DMK will be running different competitions throughout the day from 8am to 8pm on their social media channels - so keep an eye out.
Carys Underwood, Marketing Manager at Destination Milton Keynes, said: “#LoveMK Day is a reason for everyone to celebrate what they love about this amazing place, but we also want to help visitors and locals discover some maybe less well-known ideas for things to do, places to visit or activities to try – so help us by sharing your top tips on how to make the most of this fabulously quirky city.”
