Milton Keynes parks named among country’s best green spaces
Two parks in Milton Keynes have been named among the best green spaces in the country.
The Fred Roche Gardens, and Emberton Country Park, which are both maintained by Milton Keynes City Council, have received Green Flag awards.
The awards are run by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy and are considered a benchmark for parks and green spaces.
It is the first time that Emberton Country Park has received Green Flag status, while Fred Roche Gardens has retained its Green Flag award.
Fred Roche Gardens, located next to the Church of Christ the Cornerstone, features split-level gardens, public art and seating areas, and hosts community events during the year.
Emberton Country Park is a 200-acre site in Olney featuring lakes, wildlife and walking routes, while it also hosts outdoor activities and provides camping facilities.
Milton Keynes City Council’s cabinet member for the public realm Jennifer Wilson-Marklew said: “I'm delighted that both Fred Roche Gardens and Emberton Country Park have been recognised with Green Flag Awards.
“These awards reflect the hard work and commitment of our staff, volunteers and partners who help keep our parks welcoming, attractive and biodiverse.
“Milton Keynes is proud of its green spaces, which play such an important role in supporting nature, improving wellbeing, and bringing communities together.
“It's fantastic to see two very different parks recognised among the best in the country."
