Milton Keynes pottery painting business forced to close until further notice after vehicle strikes shop

A pottery painting business in Milton Keynes has been forced to close its doors until further notice after a vehicle struck its shop earlier today (Tuesday).

Kilning Me Softly, which is located on the High Street, Newport Pagnell said that the building was ‘unsafe’ following the incident but added that everyone was ‘safe and OK.’

Part of the High Street was closed following the incident, with Newport Pagnell Town Council warning the closure would remain in effect ‘for the next few hours.’

Kilning Me Softly posted on its Facebook page: “As many of you might have seen, we have had an incident involving the front of our shop.

“Due to this the building is not safe and therefore we are closed until further notice.

“We are so sorry for any inconvenience caused by this and thank you so much for all of the kind messages we have received.”

Photos of the aftermath of the crash on social media show a pile of bricks and rubble on the pavement, as well damage to the shop front and signage.

Earlier this summer, Kilning Me Softly’s founder Harriet Thompson stepped aside, 13 years after launching the business, after being inspired by a pottery painting course in Reading.

The business, whose title is a play on the 1973 Roberta Flack hit ‘Killing Me Softly With His Song’ was nominated for the title of UK’s Best Shop Name in 2023.

As she prepared to step down, Harriet told the Citizen that running Kilning Me Softly had been ‘the most beautiful experience’ and said that her long-standing colleague Niamh Davey was taking the reins and ‘making it her own.’
